Earth Hour 2009 - Sharing My Experience In Putrajaya
When the clock struck 8.30pm.. I was at Alamanda when I received several SMS wishing me Happy Earth Hour. It was bright in Alamanda. I guess shopping centre is not participating but I was happy when I saw Roti Boy shut off their lights..
Leaving Alamanda with my family, My sister started to ask about earth hour which I explained in length. Then I drove over around Putrajaya. I turned the radio but nothing was played. I guess they supported earth hour.
To my expectation, The surrounding was dark. I couldn’t locate Masjid Putra and JPM. All government buildings including my office (The Ministry of Finance) shut off their lights. My sister was jumping excitedly to see the Malaysians were supporting this campaign. It was a great experience to witness Putrajaya covered with peace and serenity in the dark.
Arriving home in Precint 11, I noticed many people outside from their home. Pakcik, makcik, with little children running around, some forming circles in the middle of the road with candles in the centre… Their home all went dark. I smiled while reaching my house.
My family did the same too. Upon arriving home, we shut off all lights and electrical appliances. I lit a candle and with my sister and my cats, we sat in the middle of the street gazing upon the stars at night. Little children came by to play with our cats too. It was great to see neighbors outside supporting Earth Hour.
The clock struck 9.30 and lights are lit. It was the end of Earth Hour in Malaysia. A great experience for me. I honestly did not expect that many Malaysians in Putrajaya involve in this campaign but to my surprise, they did support. Thank you Putrajaya!
And thank you Malaysians for choosing earth! Together we protect earth for our future generations. I hope that all off you had a great experience during Earth Hour.
